This week we all took part in the online festival to celebrate the magic of reading. Each day the children watched a different video and explored a theme from Cressida Cowell’s Waterstones Children’s Laureate Charter: “Every child has the right to...”
“...be creative for at least 15 minutes a week” - Monday
“...have a planet to read on” - Tuesday
“...see themselves reflected in a book” - Wednesday
“...have some choice in what they read” - Thursday
"...read for the joy of it"- Friday
Today the whole school spent the day exploring one of our Christian Values - 'Respect'. Each class shared the famous bible story of the Creation in Genesis and thought about why it is important to show respect towards people, animals, plants and the earth. We ended the day with a whole school assembly where each class had the chance to share some artwork linked to the area they were exploring.
The whole school back together after 18 months! Lots of happy, smiley faces.
The sun shone bright for our sports day 2021. We had a fun filled day of boccia, tennis, cycling, scooting, volleyball, track and field events.
What a wonderful time, enjoyed by staff and children.
The children in Falcon and Kestrel Class enjoyed performing their end of term show at the Church this week. They have been working hard for several weeks getting things ready, learning their lines and songs.
We were very fortunate to have had the show filmed and edited ready to share with parents this week. We look forward to sharing with friends and family.
Names of Butleigh school pupils to live underground for the next 100 years
Pupils of Butleigh Church of England Primary School were invited to sign a water pipe which will now remain underground for the next 100 years.
The pipe turned time capsule comes as part of Bristol Water’s water main replacement work in the area to improve the water supply, fulfilled by Lewis Civil Engineering.
The children found watching the pipe being replaced a fascinating opportunity to discover more about how our water supply reaches our homes and school. They loved being part of history by adding their names to the new pipes.
Matt Bridge, Project Manager for Bristol Water’s contract partners, Lewis Civil Engineering, said: “It is important to engage children in what is happening around them, and with the mains replacement works so close to the school, it made sense to get them involved. As well as learning about water and construction, we had lots of great questions, like why we wear steel capped boots.”
The water supply for Butleigh comes from Cheddar Water Treatment Works in the Mendips. The new pipe will ensure a reliable water supply for the village for years to come, while also improving on odour, colour and taste.
The work is due to continue for the next 3 weeks, ending in July.
The children enjoyed coming together outside for our Easter Celebrations. All socially distanced in our class bubbles we were able to come together to celebrate Easter. We enjoyed the presentation from Falcon class telling the Easter Story, watching KS1 Easter bonnet parade and listening to Kestrel's Easter Poem.
When we returned to school we discovered an exciting Easter treat from the PTA (FBS) for all the children and staff.
Falcon Class have enjoyed their Mayan topic day. Discovering more about clothing, music and the Mayan culture.
December 2020
The children in Kite and Owl Class have loved taking part in their Nativity this year. They are so proud of their film and are looking forward to watching it with their families.
A big thank you to the staff team for their hard work and to the children for their enthusiasm.
We enjoyed a whole school walk in the fresh air to the war memorial today.
We walked to the top of the village and took part in the remembrance service at 11am. Falcon Class read poetry and the names of the soldiers from Butleigh in WW1 and WW2.
