Music

Music

Intent

For all children to experience the joy of learning a musical instrument and have the opportunity to sing as well as play instruments together. To offer extended opportunities for those pupils who wish to continue leaning a musical instrument. To provide an opportunity at least once in their Primary school years to visit a Theatre and/or experience a live production.

We aim for Butleigh children to be musicians who can:

  • Compose and create imaginative performance work
  • Understand music by listening to music and develop musical expertise
  • Be aware and appreciate different musical traditions and genres.
  • Have an understanding of the historical, social and cultural origins of music.
  • Use musical terminology effectively, accurately and appropriately

Implementation

Throughout the school, the children are taught music by the class teacher. In KS2 specialist music teaching includes wider opportunities musical tuition for at least one year group. In KS1 pupils will have many opportunities to sing together linking with other curriculum activities too. All KS1 children are involved in a whole school Christmas production to give them the performance opportunity of singing.   In Ks2 a summer performance gives children the opportunity to sing together.

There is individual music tuition available in recorder, guitar and flute.
